Utah-Colorado Vacation

Mesa Verde
Durango-Silverton Train
This is a narrow-gauge train that is 100% coal-fired and steam-operated. The locomotives are 1923-25 vintage and are maintained in original condition. The ride takes you through a beautiful and scenic canyon, but the best part about the whole experience was our empty car! Yup...all to ourselves.
...plus the hot chocolate was wonderful!
We're so creative...

Oakland

March 4th is only 35 days away...I'm really looking forward to spreading the gospel there, but It's just coming so fast! My dad was there at the Oakland temple yesterday. He called us from the temple grounds and said you can see the Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Oakland, and San Francisco. The Oakland Temple is so bright that at night it can be seen from all over the bay. Apparently ships would used it as a navigating tool when the harbor was foggy.

Charles Lambert

I have been reading about my great great etc... grandfather Charles lambert recently. My mission president suggested that I study about my ancestors before going into the MTC and I have found it to be a really rewarding experience. In the book The First 100 Temples by Chad S. Hawkins, the story is told of Charles' dedication to the building of the Mormon Temple in Nauvoo. Charles was stopped on the street by a stranger who asked if his name was Charles Lambert. Charles replied that it was, and the stranger responded that his name was Higgins. He continued: "I have heard of you skill as a workman, and want you to go to missouri and work for me. You are not appreciated or properly paid here. If you will quit the temple and go and work for me you can name your own price and you will be sure of your pay." Charles thanked the man for the offer but declined to accept it. He bid the stranger farewell, then instantly wondered how the man had known his name and heard of his skill. He turned back to look again at the stranger but could see him nowhere--he had vanished from sight, "as if the earth had swallowed him up."

Topaz Mountain Adventure

This is us hunting for the prized topaz.

This is Topaz, the Mountain Cat that followed us all the way over Topaz Mountain. We wanted to keep her, but we couldn't for obvious reasons.
